Update Display Name without affecting Payroll Documents/Reports

Summary:

We've been trying to update the display name in the system (on welcome page and in the directory) to the preferred name, if there is one available. We updated the global display name and it is affecting payslips and payroll flow reports, which should be pulling the legal name. Does anyone have any recommendations on how we can have the preferred name listed on public pages and on the welcome page but not have it impact payroll flows and payroll documents?
