Is it possible for IT or Application Admin to replace / re-assign an approver for a contract in the middle of approval process?

A customer contract is submitted for approval. The assigned approver is away on unplanned leave for a period of time, is it possible for the Admin to re-route the approver to another person without withdrawing the approval? This is to enable that contract approval to progress without being stuck waiting for the original approver to come back.
