Removal of the "Unload" Event in Google Chrome and the Implications for Learning - with 25C update

edited Apr 22, 2025 8:03AM in Learning

This post has been updated with new Release 25C information.

Over the last few years, Google has gradually been deprecating the “unload” event from the Google Chrome browser.
You can read about this in the post Deprecating the unload event.

This has potential implications for the way learners' actions are handled when they watch online content in Oracle Learning and Development while using a Chrome Browser.

This post outlines the potential implications and explains what you,as a learning administrator, can do to minimize the impact of this change in the Chrome browser.

The unload event was used to perform cleanup tasks (e.g. save user data) when learners navigated away from a page in a piece of online content - typically by closing the browser window.

Howdy, Stranger!
