Can we use EGP_UPDATEABLE_ITEM profile along with Role to restrict Item number changes

Summary:

We have a usecase where user should be able to update Item number based on role the are having.
We can make Item number editable using Profile Option: EGP_UPDATEABLE_ITEM profile
But this will give update access to all the users having modify access to Item details.
We want to restrict update Item number access to certain Roles, Is this possible?
