Impact of changing initiative from "Never Expires" to having a recurrence / renewal

We have an existing Initiative, driving a required assignment of a self-paced, online course, to users based on an OTBI HR Analysis. It is currently set to "Never Expires," being treated as a "one-and-done" type of requirement.

Our regulatory partner wants to change this to a 3-year recurrence. While the UI seems on the surface to permit this change, we've had problems with recurrences not working properly, even in contradiction to messages shown in the UI (Oracle had to do some code fixes on this).

Has anyone had experiences regarding whether or not making this type of change will actually work? I would prefer this, so we can minimize any disruption to learners currently "In Progress." If Oracle Learn isn't capable of handling this type of midstream/on the fly change, we'll just cancel the existing Initiative and deploy a new one with the same audience and the 3-year recurrence built in.

Howdy, Stranger!
