How is material availability assignment shortage calculated?

We have created a work order, pick released and pick confirmed it. The component inventory is available. Yet when i look at Material Availability Assignment, i see that there are data in the shortages column.

Is there any interaction between planning and manufacturing happening that is not taking realtime pick confirmation and on hand values into consideration?
