Is there any way to edit the DFF while the contract is still under approval?

We have a requirement from the customer that, after submitting the contract for approval, the user reviewing the contract (who will accept or reject it) should be able to fill in the empty DFF with values. Is there any way to achieve this, or are there specific roles we need to assign to allow the user to fill in the DFF after the contract is submitted for approval?"
