Can an item be serialized but not serial tracked

Summary:

We receive serial number data for all parts returned repaired from external repair vendors. However, some of these parts are not serial tracked in Oracle Inventory on our side. Is there a way to flag an item as serialized but not serial tracked, so users are not required to enter a serial number to complete a transaction? Ideally, if a serial number is present, it should be recorded, but if it is not, the transaction should proceed with a null serial number field.
