Step conditions - Show a message if the Union Field is left empty/ is not populated

Summary:

We want to display a message next to the 'Union' field in the Position Details section when Requesting a New Position. I have tried with RegEx [^$] to show the step if the text box field is empty but it is not working. Is there another way I can set the message to show when the field is empty?
