Forecast tree or Forecast Definition table at a higher level of item dimension

As per the current business model, client does not wish to run forecasting models or forecasting trees at the item (leaf level) of the product dimension due to the large number of products volume. They prefer to forecast at a higher level. What are the key considerations or drawbacks in creating the forecasting tree at a higher level of the product dimension (Category1)?
