Is Contract Line type advisable to update at the contract level through Rest API?

In Active Contract, the requirement is to amend the contract and update the Contract Line type. However, at front end level a user cannot update the contract line type as the column is freeze. We are able to update contract line type through Rest API.

So, Is it advisable to override the restriction from front end and update the contract line type through REST API?
