How to do page customizations/personalizations after enabling redwood?

We are enabling redwood for Core HR and have some doubts related to personalizations/VBCS:

  1. If we have to add a new custom text/textbox/date selector/dropdown/Dffs etc in a redwood page to use for a custom requirement, how can we achieve the same. Guided journey are not user friendly and helpful for custom requirements - We can add custom text using Guided Journey but how can we add a textbox/date selector/dropdown/dff?
  2. The VBS has options like Text/Textbox/Dropdown/Date etc in VBS Advanced mode components section but the same are greyed out. Why are we unable to use that
