Best practice for publishing a one-off change in VBS

Summary:

I've been doing some digging and piecing together, but I'm hoping someone can give me the step-by-step.

We have a main project in VBS. We are using it in one of our dev environments to work on an optimization project that is expected to take a few months. In the meantime, we have a few small, one-off updates needed on existing pages that need to be pushed to production, but we don't want any of the pending 'optimization' changes to go in that are already in the main branch of the main project. I think we may have used the wrong approach initially, but we are so deep in that I'm looking for a solve.
