What is Oracle's alternative to ActiveX being unsupported?

Back in June, Microsoft made a change to the default MS Office settings to disable ActiveX.

As an emergency workaround we enabled exceptions on request for users who are required to use these documents for Council business. This was however always intended to be temporary as Microsoft no longer support the functionality and recommend against its continued use due to critical security vulnerabilities.

We need to have a plan to move away from this and would like to know what Oracle are providing as an alternative and what other organisations have done.
