Pulling serial from Previous Location, Last Receipt Determines Current Location

Our customer manages all items as Predefined Serialized and treats them as fixed assets.
They do not use Sales Orders for these items (RMA is not applicable).

Instead, items are only moved internally between organizations or subinventories (e.g., technicians, labs, scrap).

Question:
When scanning or receiving a serial number (for example, in a Miscellaneous Receipt or Internal Transfer), should the system automatically pull the serial from its previous location and update it to the new location – so that the last receiving transaction determines the item’s current location?
