Planning trips for a truck in a day based on lead time

edited Oct 30, 2025 7:01AM in Transportation Management 1 comment

Summary:

We have a requirement for an energy company that uses OTM to plan trips from their depot to customers using 3rd party trucks for transporting fuel. Because of the varied size of the truck and compartments within the truck, each truck is created as an equipment group. The equipment group or the truck is added as a constraint on the order and shipments are created. If there are 10 orders and same truck/equipment group is added on the orders, then 10 trips could be created with same truck and same start time.

It is important for planners/schedulers to know how many trips the truck can do in a day based on the orders and lead time. Since all 10 trips have the same start time in OTM, it is assumed all shipments could be executed in a day. But in reality, that is not the case, based on the lead time, either all 10 or less than 10 can be executed.

Howdy, Stranger!
