Use Application Role and purchasing mapping set together for requisition approval

Client requirement is requisition approval notification should trigger to custom application role. Client do not want to hard code specific worker name in the requisition approval rules. They also do not want to hard code specific worker in the approval group.

Can we use custom application role in the purchasing mapping set to trigger requisition approval notification to users who have assigned that custom application role?
