Unusual Value in Process Flow Instance Page – Understanding “Total” and summary columns

Summary:

I have observed some unexpected values on the Process Flow Instance page and need clarification on the following:

Question 1:
What does the “Total” value represent on the Process Flow Instance page? In the screenshot below, 34 is shown.

Question 2:
(a) Why does the column “Employees” sometimes appear on the Process Flow Instance page? See second screenshot.
(b) What does the value in this column represent?

Navigation Path:

My Client Groups > Data Exchange > View Data Exchange Flows > (Select Flow Instance) > Select Task Name

My understanding is that the Total represents the Number of changed 'GlobalPersonData' records identified in the 'Impacted Population', this would include a change in a child node.
