How to Reverse a Depreciation Catch-Up When an Invoice Was Added Without Amortization?

edited Nov 19, 2025 6:36PM in Assets 1 comment

Summary:

Hi everyone,

In the Assets UI, a new invoice was added to an existing capitalized asset, but the Amortize checkbox was not selected. Depreciation was then run.

As a result, the system generated a depreciation expense adjustment (catch-up) transaction, and the entire depreciation for the new cost was posted in one period instead of being spread over time.

The period where this happened is now closed, and we are currently in a new period.

How do I reverse the catch-up depreciation transaction in the current open period?

What is the correct process to amortize the additional invoice amount from the correct invoice date after reversing it?

Howdy, Stranger!
