What's Wrong? Subscription request generating when source top node NOT included in filter

SITUATION: We have a Master application that subscribes common dimensions to a Planning and an FCCS application. Accounts roll up quite differently between Planning and FCCS. To handle this, our Master Account dimension contains the "Primary" hierarchies of each of the Planning and FCCS applications. Said differently, Master Account has a Planning top node (containing the Planning roll up) and an FCCS top node (containing the FCCS roll up). The top node filter of the subscription to the Planning Account viewpoint contains the Planning top node from the Master Account dimension (and EXCLUDES the FCCS top node).
