Customer Poll: New <ProgramAttendanceBeginDate> tag in COD

We recently learned via our Software Vendor session with ED that a new tag, <ProgramAttendanceBeginDate>, will be required in the COD file outbound request for certain students' undergraduate Direct Loans.

Our understanding of the new field is this:

  • The <ProgramAttendanceBeginDate> tag should be provided in COD originations when an undergraduate student has transferring associate degree credits to a four-year college with an articulation agreement, causing them to qualify for the loan limit exception as this will not be considered a change in school/program assuming the student didn’t complete their associate degree before transferring.
    • The 4-year college will report the date the student's credits transferred to their school to COD in the <ProgramAttendanceBeginDate> field.
