Oracle CPQ + Magento “Login as Customer” — Internal vs External Users and Service Account Strategy

Context

We are using Oracle CPQ integrated with Magento and Okta for one of our business units.

In CPQ:

  • We use Internal CPQ users for CRM access(Dynamics)
  • We use External CPQ users for Magento access
  • CPQ groups are assigned at user creation and drive:
    • UI visibility
    • Attributes
    • Actions / buttons
  • Licensing is based on user type:
    • Internal CPQ license
    • External CPQ license

Magento uses the “Login as Customer” feature, where an internal employee (CSR) acts on behalf of a customer.

Current Implementation

  • Magento currently accesses CPQ using External CPQ service accounts
  • These service accounts are:
    • External users
    • Assigned to External CPQ groups
