Reassigned direct reports are over written by position management

Summary:

Hi Team

Can you please let me know function of reassign direct reports section present in direct reports page . We have re-assigned few employees from Manager one to Manager two and our system is working on Position Management. But when position sync job was ran , again all employees manager was swapped to Manager One . So would like to check when to use this re-assign direct reports if system is configured on position management
