I have asked this same question on the Payables forum.

An organisation I work with uses IDR / Intelligent Document Recognition functionality to import invoices into Accounts Payable.

They have various issues with the IDR success levels and have asked if it is possible to use Document Understanding alongside IDR functionality to address some of those issues.

From what I can see, it looks like it might be an Either / Or situation - e.g. you can use IDR, or you could use Document Understanding, but you'd have to use OCI or REST API, and do some kind of training or setup yourself for every different invoice type using something like
