Rent free period where there is a payment increase agreement in place - How to process?

edited Feb 25, 2026 3:58PM in Lease Accounting

Summary:

There is a requirement to have rent free periods for certain property leases. We can achieve this in a couple of ways, either add zero payment lines in to the payment schedule or create a full schedule with a payment each month/quarter and then create another payment with a negative amount for the rent free periods.

Content (please ensure you mask any confidential information):

The issue with both of these methods is when we add a payment increase agreement, for the first option the increase will not continue past the rent free period due to the break in the rent payments, and the second option, the negative line will be based off the initial rent not the rent after the increase.

Howdy, Stranger!
