Item code created in draft is not visible while searching.

the user created an item; it got saved and not submit due to some validation and then when user relogging in the system he is unable to search item and when user creates another new item then system should generate the previous item code but it's generating the next number. Like this there are many items which got created but user didn't submit due to some validation error and the new item code skipped. Is there any query to identify.
