Internal Location Code values - best practice in naming?

Are there any best practices when populating "Internal Location Code" values in HCM?

The data in this field for us is currently very inconsistent, some are all numeric, some are abbreviations of words, some are full descriptions, some are alpha numeric values. We need to do a cleanup effort but would like to know if there are best practices or Oracle recommendations for setting this field's value.
