Has implementation of Redwood changed the Position Hierarchy functionality?

Position with 2 incumbent managers

Please can someone help. We have a position with 2 incumbent managers, and there are positions reporting to the manager position. The direct reports also have incumbents.

The two managers have been separated out and are displayed in the Directory. One of the direct reporting position's has 6 incumbents, 4 incumbents are displayed as reporting to one manager and the other 2 incumbents are displayed as reporting the other manager

We have always worked on the premises that in this situation, the direct reporting incumbents would report to the manager who came first alphabetically. Thank you
