Routing BPM Approval to AOR of Parent Position (Vacancy-Safe) – Is This Supported and How to setup?

We are evaluating an update to our BPM approval configuration for the Request a Position Change transaction and would like to confirm both feasibility and recommended configuration approach.

Objective

We would like to route approvals to the Area of Responsibility (AOR) assigned to the parent position, rather than using a predefined user group.

Key Requirement

The solution must be vacancy-safe:

• If the parent position has no incumbent, approval routing should still resolve successfully
• Approval should be based on position-level AOR assignment, not dependent on a worker occupying the position

1. Is it supported to configure BPM approval routing to resolve approvers from an AOR assigned directly to a position (specifically the parent position)?
