What is the best way to compare two item structure at level 1 having more than 1000 components?

Summary:

We have a requirement to compare two item structure which are having 1000+ components items at level 1 and each components along with seeded attributes like sequence no, qty..etc and Custom eff/dff specific attributes in structures. I see few post telling about OIC , but isn't it go for a timeout and bring performance degradation while consuming data in PIM.

Please guide and suggest any such bulkier requirement was handled for any such customer.
