Auto-update pricing on action for in-progress quotes using Pricing Engine rule

We have an integration that updates the exchange rate on daily basis. Based on the updated exchange rate, we would like the pricing to be automatically recalculated for in-progress quotes when the user performs the Save action.

To achieve this, we created a pricing attribute to capture the quote status and used that attribute in a pricing rule. However, it is not working as expected. Whenever the pricing attribute is updated, the price gets recalculated regardless of the quote status.

Our requirement is to trigger the price update only when the quote status is In Progress.

Has anyone implemented a similar use case, or can suggest the best approach to restrict the pricing update based on quote status?
