Open ended absence for France legislation

We have a requirement of an absence type where EE can add vacation without having to enter an end date - i.e., having an ability to enter open ended leave which gets updated when the Employee is back. We've been able to successfully achieve this for other legislations by using an absence type of Generic absence and keeping the display feature of 'Open-Ended' enabled. But for France we aren't able to do it, Oracle says even though we are not using the statutory absences, FR doesn't allow open ended absences. Has anyone also faced this, how did you work around
