Profile level attribute edits on transactions

Summary:

We have a request from our auditors to add an attribute to the Profile level that will default to 30 days but still allow the user to edit on a transactions added to reconciliation. When we add the attribute to the Profile with a default of 30 days and assign edit ability to users, the field is greyed out when adding a transaction. How can we set up this attribute to allow edits on the transaction?
