Unable to Resize Always Free A1.Flex — Rebuild Failed, Data Recovery Needed

edited Aug 20, 2026 4:26AM in Arm Compute 1 comment

Hello Oracle Cloud Support / OCI Team,

I am requesting your assistance with recovering my previous Always Free Ampere A1.Flex instance and, most importantly, the data stored on it.

I would like to briefly explain what happened, because I did not intend to delete my instance or data.

What happened

My original Always Free VM.Standard.A1.Flex instance needed to be brought into the new 2 OCPU / 12 GB RAM configuration.

My first choice was simply to resize the existing instance. However, I could not find any modification or resize option in the OCI Console.

Because there was no apparent way to modify the existing instance, I attempted to terminate the compute instance while preserving its Boot Volume, with the intention of recreating the A1.Flex instance using the existing Boot Volume and the new 2 OCPU / 12 GB configuration.

Howdy, Stranger!
