How Annualized Salary is calculated when FTE is maintained manually?

We would like to better understand the logic used by Oracle HCM to calculate the Annualized Salary when the FTE is maintained manually.
In our implementation, the FTE is not automatically derived by the system. Instead, HR users manually enter the FTE value on the assignment.
During our testing, we observed that when an employee is assigned an FTE value different from 1.00, the Annualized Salary is recalculated by the system, but the resulting amount does not appear to follow the proportional relationship we would expect based on the entered salary amount and FTE value.
