Marketers strive for maximum deliverability, which is assured if their IP or domain reputation is sound. A poor IP or domain reputation leads to blacklisting. Blacklisting is the act of populating IP addresses or domains, known for or suspected of spamming, in publicly available databases called blacklists. ISPs refer to blacklists to track spamming IP addresses or domains. All emails sent from these offending IP addresses or domains are blocked from landing in inboxes. This hampers deliverability. To optimize their email strategy, marketers must ensure that their IP address or domain is not blacklisted.
