Solution for programmatically assigning group assets

We have a requirement to capitalize group assets that reach the $25K threshold (when the individual assets do not meet the capitalization threshold). We have developed a custom solution to identify and to assign these assets to a group. However, the business would like a way to understand what assets are in the grouped asset and the individual amount of those assets. We are planning to develop a report, but I wanted to inquire as to if anyone other entity had another solution we could leverage.
