Shutdown abort

edited Nov 17, 2008 9:04PM in Database Administration (MOSC) 9 commentsAnswered
Sometimes the database is hung or there are sessions which just cannot be killed. In such circumstances, it becomes necessary to issue a shutdown abort and then start the database. The database will automatically do instance recovery. Someone told me that after shutdown abort/startup, I must do a shutdown immediate/startup. My question is can anyone think of a reason why this practice be followed?
Thanks...
