Using Reverse Proxies with Multiple Sites and 1 Content Server Instance

Not sure if this would be a DNS or reverse proxy-related question, so here goes:
As far as public internet visitors to my sites are concerned, can I block access to individual Site Studio sites running in the same Content Server instance?

Scenario: We will be running 3 public websites and 1 intranet (ideally off of the same instance). The CS/webserver will be sitting inside of our trusted network and the sites will be made available to the public by a reverse proxy sitting in our DMZ. Since CS uses URL rewriting and a CGI script to serve sites/pages, is it possible for the reverse proxy to only have knowledge of the 3 public websites and not resolve the intranet? Or, do I have to set up a separate instance (each running on a different port) for both the public websites and
