RAID Level for ASM
Hi,
we are planning hardware layout for our new 2 node 10g R2 RAC system on Oracle Linux 5.2 and have the following questions
1. We are planning to have 2 Disk Groups
+DATA and +FRA. For +DATA, we have the options of using 8 physical drives converted into 4 RAID-1 luns using external redundancy but the sys admin is asking us to use one RAID-5 volume consisting of 8 drives and present that to ASM
Can someone please explain as to which approach would be the best in terms of performance and why? We all know what RAID-5 is bad for Oracle but it will be really helpful if someone can breifly explain why and how ASM will work on top of RAID-1 or RAID-5 volumes differently and effeciently
