flashback table slow

I recently SUCCESSFULLY completed a flashback table routine on a table in our production database.  The routine took 60 hours to complete.  Management now wants to know why the routine took so long to complete.  Please offer your expertise and best explanation without spending an undo amount of time.  Here are some facts:

AIX 5.3 service level 8, 64 bit
IBM 570 class server with 6 cpu and 26 GB memory
Oracle Enterprise Edition 10.2.0.3
Database instance has 5 GB memory assigned with Automatic Shared Memory Management enabled
Current undo tablespace is 6.3 GB with datafile set to autoextend

The table contains the following characteristics:
1.  2.9 million rows
2.  A composite primary key referencing 4 columns

Howdy, Stranger!
