Oracle DataGuard Setup Woes

  I am having some problems getting DataGuard setup.

 

I am new to DataGuard and I need to setup a logical standby database at our DR site for failover purposes.

 

I am trying to go through the Oracle guide at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28294/create_ls.htm which says you have to create a physical standby first and then convert it to a logical.

 

So, I started on the physical standby setup guide (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28294/create_ps.htm) and when I get to step 3.1.2 I run into some talk about OID, which I have never setup, so I thought I would just use the remote login password file, which I have also never done… but seems more straight-forward.
