sga_target setting

 We want to change from the manually manage sga to ASMM. I know in order to enable automatic sga management sga_target has to be set to greater than 0 and I also know that this setting can not go beyond the sga_max_size. But what I don't know is which value setting will be optimal? How to determine the size of sga_target? Should I just set it to any number between 0 and the sga_max_size and then monitor the system performance and see if it needs any further modification? If anyone knows the formula, please let me know. Thanks.
