Multiple Base Units of Measure for teh Same Item Number

Can I:

Setup an item with a base UOM of FOOT in our US inventory organization and setup the same item in our UK inventory organization with a base UOM of METER?

In our glabal inventory organization the base UOM is FOOT.

I need to show inventory value and transact by FOOT in the US and show inventory value and transact by METER in the UK.

We are curently setting up different item numbers in each organization to handle.
