Standby Evidently Accidently Registered in RMAN

I hope that someone can help.  I attempted to follow Metalink note: 472491.1 to recover a standby database, and somehow it has changed the database incarnation in the RMAN catalog.  I was attempting to restore archived log files from the production database to the archived log destination of the standby database in order to manually apply the logs.  Now, if I attempt to apply a log to the standby, I get ORA-19909 errors claiming that datafile 1 belongs to an orphan incarnation.  Is there a way to use the previous (ophaned) incarnation without having to rebuild the standby database all over again?
