RBS vs Auto Undo Mgmt in RDBMS 9i 9.2.0.8

Hello All,

We are unfortunately using RBS in our JDE ERP (OLTP, 150+ users) production database. About once in two months, we get ORA-01555 from a 3.5hr night job. At the same time as it runs, there are few concurrent data-updating night jobs. RBS tables dose have GBs free space.

It is found that number of RBS is not enough, before images of commited transcation have been overwritten before the big job finishes.

We added extra RBS for fix. We are also considering Automatic Undo Management (AUM) as the long term solution.

With AUM, we will need to take care of parameters like Undo Tbs size and Data Retention time, but the space available should be better utilized than the case of RBS, where ORA-01555 comes while free GBs in RBS Tbs space is still free.

Howdy, Stranger!
