Where to enter customer number in R12?

 Hi All,
Sorry this might be a dumb question but I spent 20 minutes on Create Customer page and did not find a field for customer account number. I have disabled Automatic Customer Numbering option in system option and I also have a default value for MO: default operating unit. Please advise why the account number field is not displayed.
