Receivables Statements

I wanted to find out if Customer Statements can be emailed instead of printing and mailing. Does Receivables have a seeded workflow to email Statements direct to customers? When I was in customers window I realized that there is a field for customer email and I was just wondering if this can be used for this purpose.

If this is possible, is there any kind of documentation to set this up in applications. If I were to create an XML publisher report by converting the existing Statements Report; can I automate the statement to go through email.
