ASM sizing issues and RMAN

I have three prod 11g instances and an additional instance serving as a recovery catalog.  And another instances for ASM.  This is a new setup.  RMAN backups fail with error messages “ORA-19809: limited exceeded for recovery files” and “ORA-19804: cannot reclaim 53477376 bytes disk space from 2147483648 limit”.  I am less than 20% remaining capacity on the ASM instance so I assume this is related.

Can I correct this problem by increasing the ASM storage capacity?  The current disk groups are on a SAN.  Can I simply increase the partition for each disk being used by ASM or do I need to create additional partitions and add those to the existing or a new Diskgroup?

Howdy, Stranger!
