Lsnrctl status doesn't match listener.ora file

I'm really hoping someone can help me with this issue. I've inherited an Oracle 9i system with no background info at all - it's an as is system with no one to talk to about what was done previously. The current concern I have is with the listener file, it just doesn't make sense. If I go into LSNRCTL and run status I get the following info:

LSNRCTL for Solaris: Version 9.2.0.4.0 - Production on 02-MAR-2009 10:34:11

Copyright (c) 1991, 2002, Oracle Corporation.  All rights reserved.

Welcome to LSNRCTL, type "help" for information.

LSNRCTL> status
Connecting to (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(PORT=1521))
STATUS of the LISTENER

Howdy, Stranger!
